BRHpottery

BRH Pottery is a working studio shaped by the Sonoran Desert. This site is a place to share functional ceramics, documented processes, and explore the landscape that informs the work, from clay and firing to wildlife, surface, and form. Move through the site to see finished pieces, studio notes, and the systems behind how this work is made, and how those systems continue to evolve over time.

Bowls in The Making

Music in the Studio

  • Artist: Kings of Leon
  • Title: Several tracks!
  • Genre: Rock
  • Listen: Apple Music

I primarily queue music from soundcloud.com because that's what I mostly listen to. Every now and then, I will add in music from Apple Music.

I had 6 avocado’s of clay. Each at 1 lb 8 oz. I made 5 out of 6 bowls today which I think is a good ratio. Since I’m no pro, I’m happy with that! They’re various sized bowls because I was trying to nail down the perfect size for a soup bowl. The last bowl I did was perfect. It’s the one that’s at the top, with the light on it. None of which have been trimmed yet but the one on the top seems to be a great shape and the right amount of thickness on the floor (bottom of the pot). It allows me to be a bit more creative for the foot of the pot. More pics to come as this process expands.

Process Notes

Every pot was a challenge. Some of them were hard to center on the wheel for some reason. Some had air bubbles that I had to get rid of and work back in to the walls of the pot, others it seemed I had inconsistencies in the thickness of the walls. Whether I sell these or not, I think they'd make fine additions to the daily bowl use!
