More About Bird Feeders Are a Blast
I loved making the bird feeders that you see in this post. The cone shaped one is a pinch pot that I made by making the lower half and the upper half then merged the two. It was made as a “warm up” for my second class. I didn’t think it would turn out but I actually really like it. The mesquite branches I used were carved at a taper so I could get the end in really well and the bottom of the feeder has small holes to allow for rainwater to drain through. The feeder was a huge success with the birds but it didn’t really hold a lot of seed. It emptied out in a few hours.
The plate feeder was harder. It’s a slab build but I had to add the rim at a certain stage of the drying process. I should have made the rim a bit higher as birds often like to scratch around for the prime seed. I eventually used a Quail block from Costco to put in this feeder. It also has holes for drainage and both feeders use aircraft cable to suspend them from trees. You can still the wire, but it is pretty minimal. I haven’t done a bird feeder since the plate feeder because I’ve been busy trying to get bowls down to the way I want them consistently. That’s taking most of my time. ttt
