BRHpottery

BRH Pottery is a working studio shaped by the Sonoran Desert. This site is a place to share functional ceramics, documented processes, and explore the landscape that informs the work, from clay and firing to wildlife, surface, and form. Move through the site to see finished pieces, studio notes, and the systems behind how this work is made, and how those systems continue to evolve over time.

I primarily queue music from soundcloud.com because that's what I mostly listen to. Every now and then, I will add in music from Apple Music.

I love the way the raw clay looks when it’s either leather hard or bone dry. I’m also experimenting with textures to see how the glazes break over it. What I’ve noticed is that dipped glaze doesn’t break too often. To really get the full effect of the texture, glazes need to be brushed on because brush strokes tend to be inconsistent and vary. While most people don’t like that, I do like that. It makes it look more natural to me. As I continue to feel this out, I’ll be posting more experimental things until I really nail down what I like.
